Explore big ideas and real-world questions with a BA (Hons) Theology, Philosophy and Religion at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Examine life’s big questions through the study of theology, philosophy, ethics and contemporary religious identities, whilst developing practical skills for life, work and community engagement in a diverse society.

What you’ll learn

  • Explore Canterbury’s rich religious history through immersive local study in the heart of Christian England.

  • Learn how to navigate the contemporary religious landscape, and develop applied skills relevant to multicultural Britain

  • Debate ethical and philosophical questions around diversity, inclusion, justice, and faith.

  • Develop digital, research and communication skills for meaningful contribution to public and community life.

  • Engage with faith groups and communities to understand religion and its real-world impact.

You’ll study in Canterbury, a city shaped by centuries of religious and philosophical thought. You'll explore Canterbury’s Christian spaces, local faith communities, and religious archives, engaging with a wide range of perspectives - from the Bible’s prophetic words of justice, to the philosophical quest for meaning, to contemporary ethics and diverse spiritualities.

This course will equip you with key skills and competencies for life, work, and peacebuilding in an increasingly diverse religious world. You’ll graduate with a sound understanding of contemporary religious identities, critical awareness of how to navigate and positively change a world shaped by religion and spirituality, and practical strategies to meaningfully contribute to society.

Through discussion, debate, and hands-on learning, you’ll gain the confidence to explore religious diversity, tackle moral complexity, and contribute to inter-faith conversations that matter locally and globally.
