The Landscape Institute is the UK’s chartered body for landscape professionals. Our members work across the built and natural environment, shaping places that support people and nature. Combining creativity with environmental responsibility, this is a leading green career choice.
The Landscape Institute (LI) represents a diverse workforce. Our members include landscape architects, landscape planners, urban designers, landscape managers, environmental impact assessors (EIA), landscape visual impact assessors (LVIA), and technical specialists such as CAD and BIM technicians. Working with other built and natural environment professionals, they shape, transform, and manage urban streets and cities, parks, towns and housing areas, and rural landscapes. Their work improves wellbeing, boosts biodiversity, and tackles climate change.
A career in landscape plays a critical role in addressing climate change, nature recovery and improving lives. Our sector is growing, and shapes resilient environments that support communities, biodiversity, and the economy, offering meaningful careers with lasting public benefit.
There are many routes in, including apprenticeships, degrees, and opportunities for career changers. Our professionals work in public and private sector organisations, from small practices to global firms, throughout the UK and internationally.

These routes are usually accessed by undertaking an LI Accredited Master’s Conversion Programme. We also have apprenticeship routes available to become a Landscape Technician. Across the sector, employers look for people who are creative, analytical, or both, as well as collaborative, self-motivated, with strong communication skills and a genuine interest in how places work for people and the environment.
