As a Care Leaver, you’re likely to face more barriers on your journey to university and are around 70% less likely to enter higher education. Alongside the “Make It For Real” package, care leavers will receive £1000 payment at the start of their studies to ease your transition into uni life. 

This grant is available to care students verified as care leavers or care experienced who were under the age of 26 when starting their course. 1(a) A care leaver is someone who spent at least 13 weeks in local authority care, such as foster care or a children’s home, between their 14th and 16th birthday (including their 16th birthday). or 1 (b) Care experienced is a broader term for anyone who has been in care at any point before the age of 18. This usually involves a legal order removing them from their birth family. It includes people who don’t meet the 13-week care-leaver rule and who may no longer receive local authority support—for example, those who were adopted, had a formal kinship care arrangement, or were in care before 14 or after 16. and 2. Must be studying a full time Cert HE, Degree or Accelerated course at UA92. The fund is managed by the UA92 Student Success Team. All students who declare their status as a care leaver or care experienced either through UCAS or their Direct application from will need to be verified before this grant is awarded. 

UA92 will require supporting documentation to confirm experience of care by one of the below - Local Authority Letter - A letter from the student’s local authority confirming they were looked after at any point and Under 18 at the time. Or Social Worker or Personal Advisor email confirming the student has care-experienced status Or Pathway Plan or Personal Education Plan (PEP) Or Evidence from School or College - A letter or email from a school/college stating the student was previously care experienced.
