Professional Placement Year Bursary

The Professional Placement Year Bursary is for BSU undergraduate students undertaking a Professional Placement Year (PPY) between their second and third years of academic study. While the Bursary won't cover all costs associated with a PPY, it is designed to offer students a small grant that can be used towards placement costs such as travel, food, workwear or accommodation.

Students studying at BSU's Newton Park, Locksbrook or Sion Hill campuses are eligible. The value of the  Bursary depends on the student's circumstances and there are three tiers of award:

Tier 1 £1500
Tier 2 £1000
Tier 3 £500.

There is no application process. PPY students are automatically assessed and then contacted to confirm their tier and provide further details and instruction. Please see the Bursary webpage for full information about eligibility criteria.

The PPY Bursary is currently available for 2025/26 and is expected to continue. However, all schemes are reviewed annually and may be subject to change.
