About the role

The Assistant Project Management Office Advanced Apprentice (PMO) role at National Grid sits within our Infrastructure Delivery (ID) team, which leads the execution of major energy projects across the UK. These projects include building and upgrading substations and transmission lines which are critical components that ensure electricity and gas are delivered safely and reliably.

One of our key initiatives is the Great Grid Upgrade, which connects more renewable energy to homes and businesses across England and Wales. As an Assistant PMO Advanced Apprentice you’ll play a vital role in shaping the future of energy, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to National Grid’s sustainability goals.

Within this role, you’ll gain experience in every stage of the project lifecycle, from early planning and stakeholder engagement to construction and final commissioning, including:

Providing essential administrative support to help deliver projects efficiently, including maintaining documentation and ensuring compliance with project processes.

Support the validation and interpretation of project data, helping to identify risks or discrepancies that could impact project success.

Assist in managing change requests by maintaining central records and ensuring updates are clearly communicated across teams.

Help coordinate meetings and workshops, working closely with project teams and stakeholders to support progress tracking and issue resolution.

Contribute to project reporting and updates, while supporting improvements in project management practices and tools to align with strategic goals.

Location

This role is based in the Warwick office and may offer flexible and hybrid working throughout the programme. You will be required to attend the majority of your course training at our Training Centre in Eakring, Newark. This could include multiple and frequent nights away from home. Stakeholder and site-based meetings are likely to occur in this role too which may involve travelling to locations that are not your office base.

You will need to have

You will have or predicted to achieve minimum of five GCSEs with grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), including English language and Maths or equivalent.

Due to the nature of this role, applicants for this position must be at least 18 years of age by the start date of the programme (1st September 2026)

You do not need prior work experience; the determination and will to succeed is far more important as we will teach you everything you need to know. The role will provide you with a variety of skills including transferrable skills to support your career development within National Grid.

Upon successful completion of your 2 year apprenticeship you will achieve a nationally recognised accredited qualification, Level 3 Project Controls Technician.
