Hi! I’m Taran, a Civil Engineering MEng student at the University of Surrey. I have completed a year in industry, having gained experience through a placement year and summer placements at large engineering consultancies. These opportunities have helped me understand what civil engineering looks like in practice, especially within the water and infrastructure sectors, and confirmed my interest in building a strong technical career after graduation.

I’m particularly interested in how civil engineering projects shape communities and manage real-world challenges like flooding, sustainability, and infrastructure resilience. At university, I’ve enjoyed the balance between technical problem-solving and practical, software-based coursework, and I’ve learned a lot about managing workload, exams, and placements alongside personal goals.

I came to Glasgow in 2022, after completing my Bachelor's in Electronics Engineering from India. The student experience at Strathclyde and the beautiful city of Glasgow made this university a top choice for me. I'm Shiam Rahman, an Electronics engineering and Computer Systems student at University of Surrey. My main focus in engineering is making things, particularly in the area of consumer electronics for entertainment. I am currently the Treasurer of the Bangladeshi Society at the University of Surrey and actively engage with PhotoSoc, ArtSoc, and EARS. My vision is to make impactful changes in entertainment hardware and software; developing creative products, games, and immersive experiences via VFX and graphic design. Bringing my technical electronics knowledge and creativity in art and software together in one place.
