I have completed undergrad in the field of education of students with visual impairments in Turkey. After that, I have worked in a special education centre as a special education teacher for almost one year. When I was working, I won a scholarship. Thanks to the scholarship, an exiting adventure has started in my life. Thereafter, I have completed master degree at The University of Nottingham, which provided unforgettable experiences to me. Nowadays, I am in Plymouth and interested in doctoral studies about students with dyslexia. After I complete my studies, I will be academician at Marmara university in Turkey.

I am from a very small town in Ohio where nothing interesting happened, so traveling across the world to study in Glasgow has been a huge transition, yet the best thing I have ever done. I love the amazing people and the opportunity to explore Scotland as well as the rest of the world. 

After university, I am planning on becoming a psychotherapist where I will work in hospitals to help adolescents and young adults who are struggling with mental health or are in crisis. My main goal in life is to help those in need around me the best I can.

I currently study marine biology, and plan to pursue a career in conservation. I would love to work with a rescue and rehabilitation center as a rescue coordinator and care specialist, or as a diver for conservation and restoration projects around the world.

Alongside my coursework, I’m a member of the women’s rugby union. I absolutely love my team, and all the experiences I have through them (like Wednesday night socials)! Sport and society opportunities at Bangor are phenomenal, and I’d love to tell you all about them! We also have a multitude of volunteering opportunities, with truly something for everyone. Bangor can feel quite small, but between uni-sponsored opportunities, third-party events, and living on the doorstep of Eryri, there’s no reason you can’t have a vibrant time here.

Hi, I am Kavya. I am a Year 3 PhD research student in Psychology at the University of Essex. I moved to the UK from India to study the MSc Psychology (Conversion) course and enjoyed the experience so much that I continued on to pursue a PhD. My research explores how people think and solve tricky mathematical problems, focusing on reasoning and decision-making.
Starting as an international student was both exciting and challenging, but the University of Essex’s diverse and supportive community helped me settle in quickly. The Albert Sloman Library soon became my favourite study spot, and over time I learned to strike a balance between academic work and life on campus.
I am happy to share my experience of adapting to UK academic life, settling in as an international student, managing workload, or directing you to the right support services at the University of Essex.
