What makes us different

  • We are one of the only two crowdfunded universities in the world. In the academic year 2021/22 we celebrated 100 years since our first students started. Current students, alumni, current and former staff and the local community came together to mark this moment, to reflect on our past, and look ahead. The future is ours to change.
  • 75% of our research was judged to be internationally excellent with wide-ranging impacts on society, health culture,and the environment. That Leicester also entered a substantial proportion of academics (84%) to the REF demonstrates that our academics are continuing to develop and build upon our world-leading research.
  • The University is ranked 185th in the world and 37th in the UK in the 2024 QS World University Rankings: Sustainability, demonstrating commitment to a more sustainable existence.
