Student life

Studying at Birmingham City University places you right in the heart of a forward-looking and vibrant city full of world-class restaurants, entertainment, and shops. Birmingham is the youngest major city in Europe, with under-20s accounting for 28% of its population (ONS 2020).

With world-class art, unique drama, musical flair, diverse dance and performing arts, Birmingham is a great place to soak up culture. Our street food festivals are award-winning and four of our restaurants are Michelin starred – the most out of any UK city outside of London.

Birmingham is a shoppers’ paradise. The famous Bullring is packed with modern, glossy, big brand shops, and for Sports fans, there are three leading football clubs, a world-famous cricket ground, and Commonwealth Games sporting venues to enjoy.

Whether you’re moving to Birmingham or you’re a Brummie at heart, there’s so much student life here to explore.

The West Midlands is made up of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire. Its main cities are Birmingham, Coventry, and Wolverhampton.

It’s the most diverse part of the country behind London, with a proud multicultural history, from the birth of Two-Tone music in Coventry – a combination of Caribbean ska and English punk – to the Balti curry, courtesy of Birmingham’s Pakistani community.

Once the heart of heavy industry and manufacturing, and the inspiration for Peaky Blinders, Birmingham is one of the youngest cities in Europe, with over 40% under 25 years old.
