Student life

Get involved

  • Reading University Students’ Union (RUSU) offers more than 130 student societies and sports clubs and plenty of opportunities to socialise together.
  • You can take part in volunteering or mentoring schemes or get a part-time job to meet new people and top up your funds.

Rooms that suit you

Many of our students choose to live in university accommodation in their first year. Safe, secure, and located on and off campus, our halls offer you a variety of options.

“I love living in halls – it provides such a community between students, with great links to welfare and support when needed. I feel safe and protected where I live, and I’d recommend it to anyone!”

Alex, BSc Psychology

South East England is made up of nine counties, with popular student cities in Brighton & Hove, Oxford, Portsmouth, Reading, and Southampton.

The area sees plenty of sunshine and Brighton – the LGBTQ+ capital of the UK – is a student favourite, with tons of quirky shops, cafes, arts, nightlife and watersports.

Moving east into Kent, you'll find the charming towns of Whitstable, Broadstairs, and Margate – all bursting with literary history – plus the iconic landmarks of Dover’s white cliffs and Canterbury Cathedral.

London is an hour or two away for gigs, theatre trips and capital city adventures, while the country’s two largest airports – Heathrow and Gatwick – mean international journeys are easy to get started.
