Student life

Student life at Cumbria is about more than just studying – it’s about trying new things, meeting new people and having fun along the way. Beyond lectures and coursework, you’ll find opportunities to join clubs and societies, attend social events, explore your campus and its surrounding area, and build friendships to last a lifetime.

Through our Students’ Union, we have a range of groups available to our students, including Women and Men's Hockey, Gaming, Allied Health Fellows, Law, Motorsport, Running, Mountaineering, Wildlife, and more. At each of our campus locations, we can also help you find groups and societies which are available to the wider community outside of the university.

We offer a wide range of accommodation options for all budgets, providing excellent value for money across various room types. We also have close links with letting agencies for private rentals and can support you in finding high-quality, safe and convenient housing through trusted local providers.

What's it like to live in North West?
Check out our region guide

The North West is made up of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside. Its two biggest cities, Liverpool and Manchester, are global landmarks in music and football history.

The region was the heart of the industrial revolution – at one time, Lancashire produced half the world’s cotton. Many architectural reminders of this era remain, like Liverpool’s Royal Albert Docks and Chester's Victorian centre.

The stunning Lake District – home to England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike – needs no filters, while Blackpool is a seaside adventure.
