Please note this is a Virtual Event. We hope you are excited for Episode 2 of BIMM Institutes’ “It’s About Perspective” Series. The road to legal acceptance for lesbian, gay, and bisexual people was a long one, forged by political action which often intersected with music communities. Focused from 1960, we’ll explore how live music events have played in gay liberation movements in the UK and the US. It will explore music styles and performers that originated in queer music scenes, from the underground to mainstream. We will look at how the normalization of LGBTQ+ celebs help normalize queerness in everyday life across various platforms throughout the material of community.

Juniper McBurnie: Juniper McBurnie, also known by the handle Junipr, is a songwriter, producer, DJ and BIMM MA Popular Music Practice student working in studios and nightclubs in Brighton, UK.

Outside of making music Georgie has a keen interest in both queer history and music history, which she is very excited to nerd out about across these sessions.

Laure Drea: Laura Dre is an electropop / modern synthpop artist and one of the 2% female music producers out there, who creates everything herself. She studied music production at BIMM and is currently signed to an independent record label ‘Outland Recordings’ who is one of the world’s leading synthwave companies out there and who are also known for hosting big synthwave events all over the world.

Laura Dre released her current album ‘Moving Spaces’ on the 9th July through Outland Recordings and her first single accumulated over 50K views within a week on YouTube alone. She was also featured in notable press such as CLASH Magazine and is currently working on her second album.

Professor Jennifer Otter Bickerdike: Your host, Professor Jennifer Otter Bickerdike is the critically acclaimed best-selling author of books including (the forthcoming- out November 11th) Being Britney: Pieces of a Modern Icon and Why Vinyl Matters. Jennifer is also an expert commentator in more than 30 pop culture documentaries, dog lover and native Californian.
