The MSt in Real Estate is a two-year, part-time master’s programme for experienced professionals and emerging leaders in the industry. It is delivered through a blend of online distance learning, e-learning through a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), and attendance at five residential blocks of intensive in-person study in Cambridge (seven weeks over two academic years). This format allows participants to continue in full-time work alongside their studies.
Combining academic rigour with significant industry input, it aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the real estate sector, insight into long-term market trends and strategic issues, and the ability to conduct impactful research.
The programme’s ultimate goal is to prepare the next generation of industry leaders, equipping them with the latest knowledge and skills to lead and innovate within their organisations, and to enhance the performance, efficiency, and sustainability of the real estate sector.
REM1: Real estate as an asset class
REM2: Research methods
REM3: Private real estate, funds, and international investment
REM4: Real estate appraisal and decision-making
REM5: Real estate securities
REM6: Real estate development
REM7: Real estate business, strategy, and leadership
An indicative summary of module topics is included on our course page (link below). We reserve the right to revise the distribution and coverage of the modules to accommodate refinements to the material and/or shifting priorities in the real estate agenda.
The MSt in Real Estate programme has a modular design. There are six assessed modules (REM1 to REM6) and one non-assessed module on business strategy and leadership (REM7). Assessments will be through a range of formats which may include coursework, written and oral examinations, posters, presentations, and projects. Another key component of the course is the 12,000-word research dissertation, which students complete over the two years with support and guidance from academic faculty.
Professionally accredited courses provide industry-wide recognition of the quality of your qualification.
Applicants should normally have a relevant UK 1st or good 2:1 honours degree or its overseas equivalent.
In addition, students joining the MSt course are expected to have at least three years’ experience in a relevant professional setting, such as finance, investment, real estate, or one of the more general built-environment professions. In some cases, candidates may have a professional qualification in the discipline.
Those applicants who do not meet the standard entry criteria but have alternative qualifications or experience and the potential to bring valuable assets to the programme will be evaluated on an individual basis and may be required to supply further materials in support of their application.
Applicants need to be proficient in using English in an academic setting. You may need to submit evidence that you meet our English language requirements. See our course page (link below) for further details.
