Course summary

Could your dedication to Hispanic language and history influence the way their culture is recognised today? Follow your intercultural research interests to a deeper level in a department ranked 5th for research power in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014.

We offer PhD supervision in a wide range of disciplines within the area of Hispanic and Latin American Studies. Our specialisms include (but are not limited to):

  • Literature and culture in Spain and Spanish America from the 16th century to the present day

  • History of Latin America (especially Cuba)

  • Intellectual history of Spain and Latin America

  • Visual culture of Spain and Spanish America (cinema and painting)

Our department has significant links with:

  • Centre for Research on Cuba

  • Hennessy Collection

  • Centre for the Study of Post Conflict Societies
