Course summary

This course follows the same specifications as our three-year BA (Hons) Electronic Music Production degree, but the extra Foundation Year will allow you to gain the essential musical and theoretical skills you'll need to study electronic music production at university level.

Our BA (Hons) Electronic Music Production degree is for future-focused music creators who want to innovate in the world of beats, basslines and immersive soundscapes. From house and techno to experimental and ambient, this course helps you define your style as an electronic producer.

You’ll work with Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) like Ableton and Logic, mastering sampling, synthesis, sound manipulation and live performance techniques. As you progress, you’ll explore everything from digital production and DJ skills to music cultures and creative technologies, always connecting practical learning to industry trends.

You’ll also collaborate with other students on original projects – from producing dance tracks and performing live sets to creating music for games, film or art installations. Final-year projects allow you to showcase your sound and vision through a fully produced EP, performance, or audio-visual work.
Whether your ambition lies in production, performance, digital artistry, or creating for media – this course will give you all the tools and creative freedom to thrive in an exciting, inspired industry.

The Foundation Year allows you to build essential skills for aspiring music producers and performers, combining music theory, digital production, and cultural context. You'll explore the evolution of popular music and how social, cultural, and technological shifts have shaped key genres and artists. Core modules focus on foundational and advanced techniques in DAWs, DJing, and studio work, using industry-standard tools and software.

You'll also develop compositional and aural skills, building a digital portfolio while gaining fluency in music theory. Each module is designed to support your creative development and prepare you for further study in music production or performance.

On completion of the Foundation Year, you'll continue to Year 1 of the BA (Hons) Electronic Music Production degree.
