Course summary

Studying Education and Psychology will give you expert scientific training in how the mind, brain, and behaviour work together.

You will explore the psychological and neuroscientific processes that underpin thinking, reasoning, memory, and language. You will also examine the effects of brain injury and investigate evidence based ways to improve health related behaviour. Alongside this, our degree offers the opportunity to study a wide range of education focused topics, including education policy, teaching and learning, wellbeing, child development, additional learning needs, equality and social justice, and digital education.

Throughout the course, you will develop excellent research, writing, and critical analysis skills, as well as strong numeracy and ICT abilities.

This programme includes opportunities to undertake a Year Abroad, enhancing your learning and offering invaluable life experience.

Modules

In Year 1, you will typically study areas including: What is Teaching and Learning?; Introduction to Cognitive and Clinical Psychology; Child Development and Philosophy and Theory in Education
In Year 2, you will typically study areas including: Additional Learning Needs (ALN); Brain and Behaviour; Protecting and Promoting Wellbeing in Education; and Changing Narratives in Education: Race, Gender & Sexuality
In Year 3, you will typically study areas including: Social and Developmental Influences on Behaviour

Assessment method

Throughout your undergraduate Education and Psychology BSc (Hons) degree, you will develop excellent research and analytical skills and learn to present your ideas effectively both verbally and in writing.

We recognise the EPQ as an excellent indicator of success.

If you are predicted a Grade B or above in the EPQ, you will receive an offer with a one
grade reduction, to include your EPQ with a grade B.

Minimum five A*-C grade GCSE passes including Welsh/English Language and Mathematics. Please note: Students who wish to train to become teachers in Wales following graduation from this course will need GCSEs at grade B or above in English and Mathematics, and also a GCSE at grade B or above in Welsh if they wish to train through the medium of Welsh. They will also need a C grade or above in GCSE Science.
