Keele's BA Animation enables you to shape your individual style and specialism, taking animation projects from ideation to realisation. Prepare for a creative career with Keele's BA in Animation, building knowledge of core techniques and tools, and skills that are applicable to a range of industries. Developing you into a critical practitioner and communicator, this degree provides a strong foundation of skills across various areas of animation, allowing you to explore your interests and shape your future career through specialisms of your choice. You will build a unique creative portfolio to demonstrate your knowledge and expertise as well as articulate complex ideas and techniques.
In your first year, you will focus on the core principles of animation, developing your analytical and interpretive skills, and building your unique style through experimenting with various techniques. These include illustration, digital and stop motion, helping you to build confidence with the creative tools you will need to devise compelling audio-visual animations.
Your second year will allow you to build richer narratives, pushing your expertise to build virtual worlds, undertake environmental design, create complex characters, master skills in rendering and compositing, and hone your abilities in lighting, sound design, and editing.
In your third year, you will create an 'Animation Portfolio', starting with ideation and pitching in pre-production, and then moving on to realisation through production and post-production. You will engage with user experience and interactive design, so that your creative work is tested and refined.
At Keele, we offer interdisciplinary learning, enabling you to build a skill set applicable to a range of careers within the creative industries. You will have access to industry-standard facilities, resources and support from staff within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. As a creative practitioner, you will learn to showcase your individuality through the use of hardware, software and equipment available. Our programme gives you the opportunity to complete a work placement to embed your learning in the real world, preparing you for graduation and beyond.
