Course summary
Studying Politics helps you understand the complex relationship between the state, political ideas and developments, and society. Learning to think critically and politically, you’ll be able to engage in contemporary political debate.
Our BA (Hons) Politics adopts an interdisciplinary approach. You’ll explore politics from a range of different perspectives and delve into topics such as sociology, social policy, criminal justice, philosophy and history. You’ll study alongside and engage in debate with students with different perspectives giving you a greater appreciation of the multidimensional nature of modern politics.
On this degree you can analyse how political ideas and decisions shape our daily lives and impact public affairs, including our social and cultural experiences and identities. You can also look at how those same ideas and systems are themselves influenced by some of the most significant issues that face the world today, including race, gender, the environment, the media, and poverty
Studying Politics develops a portfolio of transferrable skills that are highly valued by employers including analysis, evaluation, problem solving, effective communication, time management, organisation and teamwork skills. Your experience and ability to investigate and solve problems, formulate and present logical and structured arguments, can be adapted to a range of professions.
‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. Minimum of 5 Scottish Highers - some subject specific grades/Advanced Highers may be required.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)
We will accept this qualification in conjunction with other level 3 qualifications.
Extended Project

T Level qualifications are accepted on a case by case basis.
We allow you flexibility in meeting our entry requirements and accept a broad range of qualifications. We are happy to accept combinations of the qualifications listed above, as well as alternative Level 3 qualifications such as City & Guilds, Access and Cambridge Technical Diplomas. We also welcome applications from mature learners and/or those with other qualifications are considered on individual merit. Additional fee information
On 4 December 2024 the Welsh Government confirmed that the tuition fee cap (the maximum tuition fee that regulated providers can charge to certain students on full-time undergraduate courses) will increase to £9,535 per year, subject to changes in the regulations by the Welsh Government.
