Overview
Bring countries and cultures together as you perfect two languages (choosing from French, Spanish, and Japanese) while developing professional expertise in translation and interpreting.
You’ll study two languages (French, Spanish, or Japanese) to degree level, and hone your ability to communicate confidently in your chosen languages. You’ll be able to choose from an exciting range of modules in translation, interpreting, culture, communication, subtitling and dubbing. You’ll also be introduced to a range of specialist translation skills and learn how translation is practiced in different contexts. You’ll benefit from practical experience in interpreting, in both public service and conference modes, which will give you valuable insights into the professional world.
You’ll have access to our language lab with its cutting-edge audiovisual translation technologies and our new industry standard interpreting booths. We also offer a huge range of activities for you to get involved in, both on our beautiful UEA campus and in the vibrant, distinctive city of Norwich. In your third year, you'll enhance your experience of language and culture by living in countries where your degree languages are spoken. You can study at university (all languages) or work on a teaching assistantship or placement (French and Spanish only). We’ve exciting partnerships all over the world, including in France, Spain, and Japan, as well as in Canada and Latin America.
Our graduates move on to a wide variety of rewarding careers, including the language services and media industries, teaching, business and marketing.

Tuition fees increase annually for all students in subsequent years of study. Any fee increase is based on the fee for the year that you register. Home undergraduate fees, whose rates are regulated by the UK Government, will be amended in line with any alteration advised by the UK Government. Fees not regulated by the UK Government will increase by a maximum of 4% or RPI-X whichever is the higher. RPI-X is the Retail Prices Index excluding mortgage interest.
