This course has been written to prepare students for the world of work as well as gaining an academic qualification. Relevant career options include: probation officer, police officer, prison officer, within the National Offender Management Service the Crown Prosecution Service, Disclosure and Barring Service or other judicial related occupations.
You will be taught by former members of these services along with guest speakers those with experience in the areas of your chosen career path.
You will study a range of core modules which may include:
• Introduction to Criminal Justice
• Doing Social Research
• Legal System
• Key Thinkers in Criminology
• Introduction to Criminal Process and Procedure
• Crime and Society
• Critical Thinkers in Criminology
• Understanding Policing
• Understanding Interpersonal Violence
• Research Methods in Criminology
• Controversial Issues in Prison
• Youth Justice
Assessment will be via a combination of assignments including reports, group work and presentations.
The following entry points are available for this course:
Entry onto the Foundation Degree in Criminology will be via a successful interview. At the interview learners will be expected to discuss their reasons for studying the course and how they wish to progress in the judicial system.
Candidates would normally produce evidence of a number of the following:
• Maths GCSE at grade C or above •
• English GCSE at grade C or above •
• A minimum of 64 UCAS points •
• A pass at Level 3
Applications are welcome from mature students with an appropriate portfolio of work/experience.
Interview may be conducted by telephone, if appropriate.
