Course summary

There are five pathways in this flexible MA programme:

  • Performance

  • Composition

  • Musicology

  • Medieval Music

  • Russian Music

You will take units that provide core training, such as Research Skills for Musicians, and that build your familiarity with the ‘state of the art’, in Readings and Repertoires. These include teaching and coursework specialised to the different pathways, and at the same time give you the opportunity to build cross-disciplinary perspective.

You also take specialised units specific to the pathway, and choose from a menu of optional units tailored to your interests. These are followed by a major project: a dissertation or edition for musicologists (including those on the Russian Music and Medieval Music pathways), a recital for performers, or a portfolio of compositions for composers.
