The Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in Music Production is a vocational Higher Education course delivered at Islington Music Workshop (IMW Campus).

The HND is a career focused course designed to develop your technical, creative and professional skills in music production.

You will study in a professional music environment, benefiting from industry standard studios, equipment and software. Teaching is by our team of highly experienced tutors who also have well established industry experience and connections.

What does the course include?

The course provides a blend of practical and theoretical learning. You will develop key skills in music production, sound engineering and audio technology.

Areas of study include:

  • Music production techniques and studio recording

  • Sound engineering and mixing

  • Sound design for games and moving image

  • Audio technology

  • Creative project development

  • Industry practices and professional skills

How is the course assessed?
Coursework and continual practical and theory assessment. There are no external exams although you may sometimes have in-class tests.

Where does it lead?
This full-time, two-year course combines hands-on studio experience with industry relevant theory, preparing you for either a one-year University Top Up Honours Degree or employment in the music, sound and creative industries.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must be aged 18 or over and have one of the qualifications listed below.
Learners over 21 with relevant experience/professional qualifications are encouraged to apply.

Year 1 Entry Requirements:

  • BTEC Level 3 qualification in Music Technology or a related subject.

  • A Levels. One in a relevant subject.

  • Relevant industry experience or employment in the creative sector.

Year 2 Direct Entry Requirements:

  • HNC (Level 4) in Music Production or equivalent qualification in the subject area.

  • Relevant industry experience/employment in the creative sector.

All applicants must demonstrate a good level of written and spoken English. Applicants whose first language is not English may need to provide a relevant English language qualification or complete an assessment.
