Course summary

Why an Integrated Foundation Stage?
An Integrated Foundation Stage starts your degree studies with a year spent learning the skills required to progress onto a full honours degree. Alongside an introduction to Fine Art, you will develop valuable study skills, communication, team work and problem-solving techniques which help to build your confidence and prepare you for the rest of your course.

Why Fine Art?
Our Fine Art degree enables you to develop your full creative potential and individual artist's signature, with your ideas driving your choice of medium. You’ll acquire a broad range of technical and practical artistic skills, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital technologies, photography, video, performance, text and sound, exploring the practical and conceptual possibilities of each form. With opportunities to gain experience on placements with organisations such as the National Portrait Gallery, Spike Island Bristol, Arnolfini, Drawing Room, White Cube Bermondsey and Cheltenham's Wilson Gallery, our graduates stand out from the competition. There’s also the chance to be inspired by trips to international galleries in locations such as Barcelona, Berlin and Vienna, and spend a month in one of Rome’s prestigious culture research academies (additional costs may apply, see course web page for details).

You’ll draw on the expertise of accomplished lecturers, including practicing artists and published authors, as you create an extensive portfolio of artistic work. You can take advantage of opportunities to showcase your work at national and international exhibitions and even sell your work at an exhibition in Amsterdam. Working in our dedicated studios and 3D workshops, you’ll also benefit from state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
