Course summary

Throughout our Bsc Software Engineering course (Hons), you will learn far more than how to code. From the beginning of your studies, you will learn how to start building software, experiment with new technologies, and develop the skills that employers value most in modern industries.

You will learn how to design and deliver innovative solutions to real‑world problems, while exploring high‑demand areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data science, software engineering, and mobile app development.

Our programme is shaped by industry input and delivered by experts working at the forefront of their fields. Your lecturers include BAFTA‑nominated game developers, leading cyber security specialists, and researchers collaborating with organisations such as Airbus, Microsoft, HSBC, and Siemens. Throughout the course you will learn in state‑of‑the‑art laboratories, work alongside your peers on practical projects, and present your work to industry partners at our annual Project Fair.

Whether you’re interested in building cloud‑based systems, developing accessible apps, exploring Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, or creating software that doesn’t exist yet, you will graduate with a strong portfolio that showcases your abilities, and the confidence to apply them in the workplace.

This programme includes opportunities to undertake a Semester or Year Abroad, enhancing your learning and offering invaluable life experience.

This course also offers you the opportunity to spend a Year in Industry, in the UK or overseas, enabling you to gain valuable workplace experience. The University advocates for paid-only placements, which on average have a salary of over £20,000. Unpaid placements are considered on a case-by-case basis.
