The University of London Institute in Paris offers a Major/Minor programme of study delivered over three years of residency in Paris. Not only does it offer everyday exposure to French life and language, enabling you to acquire a high level of proficiency in the French language, but it will also give you the opportunity to gain a specialist focus on the political and diplomatic issues in the francophone world, Europe and internationally.
Compulsory courses aim to:
Consolidate spoken and written language skills in a variety of registers including that of the diplomatic world, such as translation to and from French
Develop awareness of the post-1789 historical period and institutions and issues in modern France
Introduce diverse forms of cultural production through contemporary critical and theoretical approaches
Prepare you for professional life by offering a balanced understanding of, and an ability to, compare French and British cultures in both the general and political frameworks provide a coherent and intellectually stimulating programme which will include theories of and issues in international relations and the politics of France and key strategic areas of the French-speaking world.
With graduates in diverse careers from law to international relations, government and diplomacy, the BA French Studies with International Relations can be tailored to your goals. Gain transferable skills and build your knowledge of international relations theories and issues relating to the French-speaking world, including Africa and the Middle East.
You complete 11 compulsory modules and 5/6 elective modules.
The BA in French Studies with International Relations is delivered in three stages, each of which comprises one year of full-time study during which you will follow courses to the value of four units (one unit is equivalent to 30 national credits). You will take 90 credits in the Major subject and 30 credits of the Minor subject in each year of study. The degree provides progressive structures enabling you to develop increasingly specialised knowledge and understanding of key themes alongside core transferable skills.
We offer regular site visits, as an integrated element of our teaching to help you get the most out of the city and your study experience.
Programmes use mixed assessment models, incorporating written coursework, oral presentations and formal exams and vary from module to module.
Students can follow a range of different pathways and complete a research project in their final year of study.
