Course summary

The BA (Hons) Fashion Design at MJM London South Bank University is designed for ambitious creatives who want to transform ideas into collections, brands and fashion experiences that influence contemporary culture.

Fashion today extends far beyond the catwalk. Designers shape the way people express themselves, interact with brands and engage with emerging technologies. From luxury houses and independent labels to digital fashion, content creation and entrepreneurial ventures, the industry is constantly evolving and creating new opportunities for creative talent.

Studying in London, one of the world's most influential fashion capitals, students develop a strong understanding of both the creative and commercial realities of the industry. Through MJM's unique connection with France and Paris, the historic centre of luxury fashion and haute couture, students benefit from an international perspective that reflects the global nature of contemporary fashion.

The programme combines creative exploration, technical development and professional practice. Students learn how to research trends, develop concepts, construct garments, communicate ideas and build collections that respond to real audiences and market opportunities.

Throughout the degree, students progressively develop expertise in:

• Fashion Design and Collection Development

• Fashion Illustration and Visual Communication

• Pattern Cutting and Garment Construction

• Textile Research and Material Innovation

• Fashion Branding and Creative Direction

• Digital Fashion, Emerging Technologies and Creative AI

• Professional Practice and Portfolio Development

Learning is delivered through studio projects, workshops, critiques and industry-inspired briefs that encourage experimentation, innovation and individual creative expression. Students are challenged to develop their own design identity while building the technical and professional skills required by the international fashion sector.

Teaching is delivered by practising professionals with experience across fashion design, luxury, styling, creative direction and fashion communication. Their industry knowledge helps students understand current practices, emerging opportunities and the realities of working within a fast-moving global industry.

Portfolio development is embedded throughout the programme. By graduation, students have produced a substantial body of work that demonstrates their creative vision, technical abilities and professional potential. This portfolio becomes a powerful tool for internships, employment, entrepreneurial projects and postgraduate study.

Graduates are equipped to pursue careers including Fashion Designer, Creative Director, Fashion Stylist, Fashion Product Developer, Trend Forecaster, Fashion Consultant, Fashion Entrepreneur and roles across luxury, retail, digital fashion and international fashion businesses.

The programme leads to a double qualification:

• A BA (Hons) degree in Fashion Design validated and awarded by London South Bank University

• A French state-recognised degree awarded by MJM Graphic Design

This international double award combines British academic standards with more than 45 years of French creative education expertise, strengthening employability, academic mobility and career opportunities across the UK, Europe and global fashion industries.
