Medicinal chemistry is the discovery, design and synthesis of new clinical drugs and medicines.
This exciting degree allows you to broaden your interests as you discover the subject. It includes the option to spend a year studying abroad or working in industry.
You’ll explore the role of chemistry in:
drug design
cancer chemotherapy
enzymology
toxicology
You'll study medicinal, organic, inorganic and structural chemistry. You'll investigate modern analytical techniques and computational chemistry.
The following entry points are available for this course:
ABB including Chemistry. For Biology, Chemistry and Physics A Levels, we require a pass in the practical element. GCSE Mathematics grade B or 6 required if not offered at a higher level.
AABBB at Higher Grade including Chemistry. Combinations of Highers and Advanced Highers accepted. Mathematics required at National 5, minimum grade B (or grade 2 Standard Grade or Intermediate 2 equivalent) if not offered at a higher level. Where a candidate bypasses the assessment for National 5 qualifications, a minimum of grade C in the Higher in Mathematics is required.
Scottish qualifications can be taken in more than one sitting.
45 level 3 credits with 30 level 3 credits at Distinction and 15 level 3 credits at Merit or above. To include 15 level 3 credits in Chemistry at Distinction. GCSE Mathematics grade B or 6 required.
We welcome applications from students offering an Extended Project and value the skills of research and independent learning that it is designed to develop. If you offer an Extended Project, it will be taken into account as part of your application profile, but we will not usually include it in offer conditions for this degree programme.
32 points including Higher Level Chemistry Grade 6. If not studying a full IB Diploma - Grades 6, 5, 5 at Higher Level including Chemistry grade 6 and completion of a national high school diploma. Standard Level Mathematics required at grade 5 if not offered at Higher Level.
Applicants will be considered on an individual basis.
H1H2H2H3H3 at Higher Level including Chemistry at at least H2 and Mathematics.
D3, M2, M2 in Principal Subjects including Chemistry. GCSE Mathematics grade B or 6 required if not offered at a higher level.
