If you don’t have, or don’t think you will attain, the normal tariff points for studying at Lincoln Bishop University, this course will enable you to study for a degree without any UCAS points. The course is delivered over four years and includes a Foundation Year, which gives you a perfect introduction to what it means to be a university student and prepares you for effective undergraduate study. In your Foundation Year, you will study eight modules, all of which are designed to equip you with the necessary academic skills and knowledge to progress successfully in your chosen subject. You will also engage in a series of bespoke subject sessions delivered by experts, designed to introduce you to your chosen subject area.

Modules

Assessment method

Our History course is designed to assess your skills, knowledge, and understanding in ways that truly reflect your abilities and prepare you for life beyond university. We carefully select assessment methods that support your learning and development, helping you to improve and progress throughout your degree. Importantly, we do not use unseen written examinations in any of our modules.

Instead, you will experience a diverse range of assessments, including written essays, oral, digital and practical presentations, portfolio submissions (where you bring together smaller pieces of research), assessed debates, and one-to-one discussions. These methods are chosen to help you build confidence and competence in key areas such as creative communication, report writing, project management, and professional exchanges of ideas - skills highly valued by employers.

Written communication remains at the heart of History, so around half of your assessments will focus on expressing complex ideas clearly and persuasively in writing. Your degree will culminate in a Dissertation—a substantial piece of independent research on a topic of your choice, developed in collaboration with your supervisor. This capstone project is an inspiring way to showcase your ability to plan and execute a major research project, providing a strong example of your skills for future employers.

Throughout your studies, you will be supported by a blend of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical workshops, and field trips, all designed to help you succeed in your assessments and experience how historical ideas are communicated both inside and outside the classroom.
