Course summary

Mathematicians and computer scientists are amongst the most highly-prized graduates today. On this programme, you will divide your studies more or less equally between the two subjects, studying modules from Mathematics (G100) and Computer Science (G400).

This programme is accredited to meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.

This programme is available with either a Year in China or a Year Abroad. The Year in China offers undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). You can choose either the China Studies Track, where you will take courses from the China Studies Degree, the Creative Track, or the Entrepreneurship Track . XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. The Year Abroad offers students the opportunity to spend a full academic year studying at one of our partner universities around the world, following a mixture of culture and/or discipline-related modules. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China or a Year Abroad you will have the opportunity to apply after you arrive at Liverpool.

For applicants studying A levels with English exam boards: Where a science has been taken at A level (Chemistry, Biology, Geology or Physics), a pass in the Science practical of each subject will be required.

T Level

Science or ICT T Level alongside A Level Mathematics only. Typical Offer would be Distinction overall, grade A in the Core Component and Merit in the Occupational Specialism Component.

GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Extended Project

Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and 3 A Levels and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be AAB or ABB plus A in the EPQ, with grade A in Mathematics.

34 points overall with no score less than 4 and including 6 in Higher Level Mathematics, or pass the IB Diploma with 6,6,5 in three Higher Level subjects, including 6 in Mathematics.

If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2027, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.
