Course summary

The UK fashion and textile industry contributes £62bn to the UK economy. The UK fashion and textile industry is one of the largest sectors in the country and its influence extends around the world. Working in our industry standard environment, this course is based on project and studio work. You will develop skills in fashion illustration, design development, pattern drafting and garment manufacturing techniques. As well as the creation of textiles incorporating print, knit and embroidery. You will develop as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the Fashion and Textiles sector, with an awareness of the importance of sustainability in the Fashion and Textile Industry.

Our goal is to prepare you for employment in the Fashion and Textiles Industry or to top up to a full BA(Hons) Degree.

A2 Creative Project
In year one you will develop your creative and professional skills through project management, client led briefs and projects, exhibitions, specialist industry textile skills, collaborative working, marketing and promotional skills, communication skills, as well as those key research and investigation skills. You will develop skills in the creation of textiles through creative textile development: mixed media drawing, embellished (hand and machine embroidery), printed and constructed textiles (fabric manipulation, knit and weave). You will explore digital imaging using Adobe CC software, laser cutter and sublimation printer.

Module B: Professional Creative Practice
B1 Personal Professional Development
B2 Professional Project
You will develop a deeper understanding of the professional practices and standards in the Fashion and Textile industry, with a focus on your own career ambitions. You will refine your skills and gain a greater understanding of industry expectations.
You will undertake a comprehensive personal project appropriate to your progression route in the current Fashion and Textile industry. You will employ technical skills to produce professional results, demonstrating professional behaviours and project management abilities. You will present your professional project demonstrating strong communication skills. You will build a strong portfolio and CV.

Assessment method

Assessment is based on coursework that is a combination of practical assignments, projects, and presentations. You will receive an assignment brief for each task, outlining the requirements and deadlines. Work is graded through a Pass, Merit and Distinction framework. Assessments are designed to be:

Fair and Transparent: Following national standards and ensuring consistent and fair grading
Diverse in Format: Including individual and group projects, written reports, and practical demonstrations

Qualification requirements

UCAS Tariff - 48 points

48 UCAS points from an appropriate level 3 qualification (UAL/ BTEC Extended Diploma or 2 A levels) and GCSE minimum grade 4 in English and Maths or equivalent. Applicants who can demonstrate previous relevant experience will be considered on an individual basis. Additional fee information

As part of the program, you will have the opportunity to participate in inspirational study visits both within the United Kingdom and internationally. Our close proximity to London, one of the world’s major art capitals, enables frequent visits to renowned galleries and exhibitions. In recent years, students have travelled to vibrant cities like Berlin, Reykjavik, Helsinki, and Madrid. These trips are optional and are not included in the course fee. Students will be provided with sufficient notice to budget for these enriching experiences.
