Leadership has consistently been shown to be key to the effective delivery of health and social care services. Indeed, lack of leadership has been cited as a major cause of most health and social care system failures. This PG Cert Leadership in Health and Social Care highlights the start of your leadership journey providing you with the skills and insight to lead effectively and make sustainable improvements to health and social care services.
How you learn
We value collaboration, creativity and inclusive practice and you will learn alongside colleagues from health and social care both nationally and internationally. Our programme also interfaces with other post graduate programmes across the university to provide a wider connection and collaboration with other professionals and specialities.
Our course is designed to provide you with the necessary skills and competence for an effective leadership role in health and social care.
The assessment tasks associated with each module are designed to reflect to your current practice and service needs. This maximises the benefit to both you as an individual staff member and to your organisation, as all the outputs of the course can support service
As part of the course, you will gain 60 credits towards a master's level qualification. This will allow you to progress from PGCert to PG Dip and MSc Health and Social Care Leadership
As a student on our unique programme, you will maximise your learning by engaging in real world assignments. All course assessments centre on service delivery and improvement, giving you the opportunity to actively display and practice leadership. This means that you will not only gain enhanced knowledge of evidence–based management and leadership theories, but also develop the practical skills you require to lead more effectively in the workplace.
Throughout this course you will be supported to make links back to your own professional practice through reflective activities, individual and group tasks and through formative and summative assessments. You will also receive bespoke feedback on your own leadership development in each module.

The leadership context of health and social care organisations is complex and constantly changing. The skills required for successful leadership in these turbulent times underpins our course design. Our intention is to invest for immediate leadership impact and long-term organisational improvement
This dynamic PG Cert Leadership in Health and Social Care is designed to support leadership development across a range of professional roles both nationally and internationally. Our widely sought modules enable students to challenge ideas about how to manage and lead people and teams within their organisations.
By offering new perspectives on leadership and how these might relate to professional practice. We share some powerful, practical tools, techniques and strategies to unlock effective leadership potential. We enable students to explore their own leadership strengths and areas for development to maximise impact with more senior staff and the organisation.

A first degree or an appropriate professional qualification considered to represent equivalence to a degree. In some circumstances experience of degree level study along with leadership/management experience will be considered. Where English is not your first language an IELTS score of 6.5 is required, with no individual element below 5.5.
