Course summary

Graduates of this degree programme go on to a wide range of careers: you may be responsible for planning the electricity distribution network, or you may be designing the electronics of the next ‘must have’ item. However, you are also not limited to a career in engineering, with many employers actively seeking engineers for their mixture of numerical ability and practical problem solving skills. One day per week is timetabled for practical work in our well-equipped modern laboratories during the first two years. In the final year you will choose from a wide range of projects that is either linked to research work or has some industrial relevance.

This programme is available with either a Year in China or a Year Abroad. The Year in China offers undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). You can choose either the China Studies Track, where you will take courses from the China Studies Degree, the Creative Track, or the Entrepreneurship Track . XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. The Year Abroad offers students the opportunity to spend a full academic year studying at one of our partner universities around the world, following a mixture of culture and/or discipline-related modules. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China or a Year Abroad you will have the opportunity to apply after you arrive at Liverpool.

Pass Access to HE Diploma in a relevant subject with 45 Level 3 credits with 33 at Distinction (including 15 Mathematics credits) and 12 at Merit.
Students will also be required to take an online Mathematics assessment.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Extended Project
A

Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and 3 A levels and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be ABB or BBB plus A in the EPQ.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
Offer: 32

32 points overall and no score less than 4 and including 5 in HL Mathematics and 5 in a second HL science subject, or pass the IB Diploma with 6,5,5 in three Higher Level subjects, including HL Mathematics and a second HL science subject.

WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales
B

B in the Welsh Baccalaureate, plus AB at A level (including Mathematics and a second science subject).

Additional fee information

If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2027, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.

Tuition fees are subject to increase each year, subject to the government’s regulated fee limits. For UK students applying for 2027 entry the Tuition Fee is £10,050.
