The Childhood Studies (Disability and Education Pathway) BA (Hons) top-up is designed for experienced practitioners seeking to complete an honours degree while continuing to work in education and disability-related settings. This Level 6 programme builds on prior learning to develop a critical, research-informed understanding of childhood, disability, inclusion, and the social, political, and ethical contexts that influence the lives of children and young people. You will engage with modules such as Critical Disability Studies, Disability Policy and Ethical Practice, and Child in Society, exploring contemporary issues and debates that shape inclusive practice.
The programme also develops independent research skills, with a focus on methodological rigour, ethical practice, and evidence-based approaches through the dissertation and ‘Becoming a Researcher’ module. In addition, learners strengthen professional capabilities for leadership, collaboration, and quality improvement in inclusive education and related services.
The Leading Quality module equips students to critically evaluate and enhance professional practice, supporting positive outcomes for children and young people. This top-up degree provides a flexible, locally accessible route for practitioners, combining academic challenge with practical relevance. Graduates leave with the knowledge, research expertise, and professional insight to advance careers in education, SEND provision, local authority and third-sector services, or to pursue further postgraduate study.
