Become an engineer ready to tackle the challenges of our modern world with BEng Engineering at Birmingham. This flexible programme means you’ll get to explore engineering disciplines before choosing your specialism.

Solve global problems by creating smart, digital and sustainable engineering solutions. You'll learn the advanced skills to operate as an engineer in various industries.

With practical and theoretical experience, you’ll learn the fundamentals and build a thorough understanding of each discipline: civil, mechanical and electronic, electrical and systems engineering. You can then specialise and deepen your knowledge.

With a Design Centre and the Makerspace, you’ll be able to apply your new skills in state-of-the-art facilities. Enjoy working alongside students from other departments to build interdisciplinary experience. From construction and infrastructure to energy and climate resilience, open the door to a range of career options.

Qualification requirements

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - AAB

A level Mathematics required. General Studies or Critical Thinking not accepted. However, a good performance in one of these may be taken into account if you fail to meet the conditions of the offer.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - D*D*D*

D*D*D* plus Distinction in all units required. BTEC Extended Diploma will be considered providing there is sufficient Mathematics content and applicant satisfactorily completes our Mathematics aptitude test.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points

6,6,5 at Higher Level to include Mathematics with a minimum of 32 points overall.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)

Accepted in place of a non-required A level with the equivalent grade.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

Accepted in place of A levels with the following grade equivalencies: D2 = A*; D3 = A; M2 = B. Combinations of A levels and Principle subjects are accepted. NB required subjects must be offered (see A level Section)
