What you'll study
You will begin your Business Computing degree by learning the fundamentals of computing, programming, and understanding user requirements and design. In laboratory seminars, you'll apply this knowledge through hands-on practice.
As the course progresses, you'll be introduced to core concepts in mobile application development, application of AI and the fundamentals of digital business. These topics will help you build a solid understanding of computing essentials in a professional business context.
Throughout the course, you will also develop key professional skills essential for your future career. A group project focused on developing an effective solution to a real-world business problem will enhance your IT problem-solving abilities, as well as your teamwork and communication skills.
In the later stages of the course, you will explore advanced topics such as responsible computing design and business intelligence technologies. These modules will deepen your understanding of the challenges and opportunities businesses face in the digital age. You’ll also have the option to choose from a range of optional modules, allowing you to tailor your studies toward specific career interests.
For your final project, you will design and develop a comprehensive artifact that addresses a specific problem, an excellent opportunity to apply your learning and showcase your skills to potential employers.
Foundation year
There are many reasons for joining a foundation year course; you may not have the exact subjects or grades at A level to meet the entry requirements, you may have been living abroad or want to change direction with your career. Whatever your starting point, the foundation year offers a firm grounding in the skills and knowledge that you will need to get the most from your studies and thrive at University. Successful completion of the foundation year allows you to progress straight onto Level 4 of this course.
