Course summary
Civil Engineering is concerned with the planning, design, construction, sustainability, management and maintenance of infrastructure. Fields of activity include structures, transportation, foundations and water engineering. Civil engineers require technical skills and are concerned with management and the protection of the environment. Civil Engineering was one of the founding degrees at Queen's, making it one of the oldest in the UK and Ireland. Staff lead high-quality research and are recognised for their excellence in teaching.

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted
A level - AAB
Including Mathematics and at least one from Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Computer Science, Digital Technology, Environmental Technology, Geography, ICT (not Applied ICT), IT, Physics, Software Systems Development or Technology and Design.
A maximum of one BTEC/OCR Single Award or AQA Extended Certificate will be accepted as part of an applicant's portfolio of qualifications with a Distinction* being equated to a grade A at A-level.
A-level General Studies and Critical Thinking are normally excluded from offers. However, the grade achieved may be taken into account when results are published in August and may be used in a tie-break situation.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - Not accepted
Access to HE Diploma - Not accepted
Scottish Higher - Not accepted
Pearson BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF) - Not accepted
Scottish Advanced Higher - AAB
Including Advanced Highers in Mathematics + a Science subject (see list under A-level requirements)
Offers are normally made on the basis of a combination of the two Advanced Highers and two Highers.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 34 points
Successful completion of IB Diploma Programme with 34 points overall including 6,6,5 at Higher Level including Mathematics + a Science subject (see list under A-level requirements)
Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H2, H3, H3, H3, H3, H3
H2H3 Mathematics + a Science subject (see list under A-level requirements) + H3H3H3H3. If English is not offered at Higher Level minimum grade 04 required at Ordinary Level.
Joint Physics and Chemistry Higher Level is acceptable.
GCSE Mathematics at grade B/6 or better.
Scottish National 5 Mathematics at grade B or better.
In all cases where Physics is not offered at A-level or at Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher, applicants must have a minimum of grade B/6 in GCSE Physics/grades BB/66 in Double Award Science (not Applied), or grade B in National 5 Physics.
