The FdSc and BSc Medical Bioscience programmes have a significant number of industry relevant practical lessons and skills are developed in scientific and clinical settings. These support learners to develop practical skills that are required by a variety of roles within the sector.

Theoretical content supports practical lessons and covers a wide range of topics within Medical Bioscience, this provides students with underpinning knowledge in key areas and helps inform career and/or further study choices.

Careers leading on from these programmes include; Analytical Support Chemist, Technical Support Scientist, Microbiology Support Scientist, Process Development Technologist, Laboratory Assistant, Senior Laboratory Technician, Assistant Scientist, Technical Specialist (Scientist), Quality Control Laboratory Assistant, Laboratory Co-ordinator, Technical Laboratory Assistant, Laboratory Analyst, Laboratory Research Assistant, Science Teacher, Medical Writer, Pharmaceutical Development/Sales and Charity/Support Work.

This course is particularly relevant to people already working in, or looking to develop a career within scientific/medical research/laboratories. If you wish to continue studying beyond this course, it will provide you with a strong academic basis to do so. Course progression routes could include the BSc Medical Bioscience or BSc Education with Biological Science upon completion of the FdSc Medical Bioscience. After completing the BSc in Medical Bioscience, learners could progress onto the following Masters degrees; MSc Translational Oncology – University of Sheffield, MSc Biomedical Sciences – University of Hull, MSc Pharmacology, MSc One Health – University of Lincoln.
