Course summary

Study both computer science and maths in this combined course. The skills you gain from both disciplines will make you highly employable across a range of sectors.

Computer science is founded upon maths, and the study of the two together allows you to explore topics core to both while gaining an insight into how they intersect. Maths influences computer science, from designing and analysing efficient computer programs to developing formal proofs that a piece of software does what was intended. This is especially important, for example, if the software is being used to fly a plane. Increasingly, computer science is also being used to find solutions to mathematical issues. Computers are used to solve long-standing mathematical problems, as they can help visualise complex numerical data, search for solutions, and make number manipulation faster.

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - AAA

If you are studying towards a fourth A level, we will make an alternative offer of AABB. Essential Subjects: Mathematics (or equivalent) at grade A is essential.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

DDM + A at A Level Mathematics. We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential.

Access to HE Diploma - D: 39 credits M: 6 credits

We accept the Access to Higher Education Diploma. The syllabus must contain a significant portion of Mathematics that is considered equivalent to A Level standard. Applications will be considered on an individual basis - please contact the Department before you apply.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 36 points

With 6 in Higher Level Mathematics.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024) - A

We will consider this qualification alongside or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications, as equivalent to one A Level.

Extended Project - A

If you achieve A or higher at EPQ, you may be eligible for an alternative offer up to one A Level grade (or equivalent) below our typical offer.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, D3, D3

Cambridge Pre-U Mathematics at grade D3 is essential.

OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma

DDM + A in A Level Mathematics. We consider a range of OCR qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential.

T Level

We consider a range of T Level qualifications, in combination with an A Level in Mathematics (or equivalent qualification). Please contact us to discuss your qualifications.
