How do investigators catch hackers, trace digital forensics or recover hidden evidence? Develop the skills to combat the global rise of cybercrime on our Computer Science with Digital Forensics BSc. Experts in digital forensics are in high demand, and you’ll gain essential skills in areas such as digital investigations, cybersecurity, criminal justice, data recovery and reverse engineering, preparing you for exciting careers or further study.
Why choose this course?
Study in a digital forensics lab, using the same specialist software as professional forensic units

Reflects current and emerging challenges in digital forensics
Gain real-world experience, from an industry-linked research project to optional work placement
Employability skills are woven throughout the course
Technological advances continue to shape our world and affect every aspect of modern life, with digital evidence now critical to national defence, corporate security and criminal investigations. You’ll gain the skills needed to meet the increasing demand for experts who can identify, examine, and present digital evidence accurately and ethically, helping to safeguard individuals, organisations and society.
Develop expertise in forensic science and digital forensic investigations, from evidence collection to data analysis. You’ll build core programming skills in Python, gain an understanding of computer hardware and adopt a human-centred approach to software development, while strengthening your practical skills in contemporary web technologies and database tools.
In your final year, you will undertake an independent investigation into an advanced topic in digital forensics, choose from a range of optional modules, and develop transferable professional skills to enhance your employability. The course also explores the social context of digital forensics, including user needs, cost drivers and how solutions are evaluated.
Throughout the programme, you will benefit from a variety of teaching and learning activities informed by and involving our partners from industry. This includes a series of guest lectures from organisations such as Microsoft, the BBC, and CapGemini, as well as grouped and individual projects potentially involving real-world data from industry.
From dedicated professional development sessions and industry guest lectures to tailored careers support, employability is embedded throughout your studies. The programme also includes the option to enhance your experience through either a flexible-short or year-long industry placement. Alternatively, if you’re interested in teaching, a specialist option offers experience in educational settings.
