Overview

Our BA Business programmes are designed with your career aspirations in mind, offering flexibility and a broad range of opportunities to tailor your studies.

Build a strong foundation in your first two years (Levels 7 & 8) with our newly introduced common modules where you'll focus on the essentials in business and marketing studies. For your third year (Level 9) onwards, you'll have the freedom to choose your area of specialism.

Developed in alignment with the needs of modern organisations in the private, public and tertiary sectors, the BA (Hons) Business programme prepares students for a wide range of careers requiring business acumen and expertise, including the evolving nature and impact of AI in contemporary organisations.

The programme cuts across business, management and organisation studies disciplines, including marketing, human resources, entrepreneurship, sustainability, strategy and leadership to foster development of broad knowledge that prepares students for a wide range of careers. Whether your career aspirations lie in business, government or the charitable sector, the BA (Hons) Business will help you take them head on and with confidence.

Careers

On the completion of the BA (Hons) Business degree you may follow the footsteps of your predecessors and pursue a range of careers in Scottish, UK-wide and multinational organisations from a variety of sectors, including:
• Management consultancy services;
• IT services;
• Retail and wholesale;
• Banking and finance;
• Logistics and distribution;
• Local and national government; and
• Charity.

Alternatively, you may start your own business or pursue further study, including the following qualifications:

• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD); and
• Doctor of Business Administration (DBA).

Year 1

In the first year of their studies, students are introduced to key areas of business, management and organisation studies, including finance, human resources management marketing and entrepreneurship. They also begin to explore the role of AI and other technologies in contemporary work settings.

Year 2

In the second year of your studies, students develop knowledge in areas that are highly relevant to contemporary organisations, including sustainability, operations management and digital workplaces. They also explore the role of AI in innovation and analytics.

Year 3

In the third year of their studies, students explore emerging business issues, as well as develop an understanding of strategy, organisational culture, leadership and the transformative potential of AI. They also learn research methods in preparation for undertaking an honours dissertation/project in the final year of their studies.

Year 4

In the final year of their studies, student complete an honours dissertation/project on a topic of their choice. Simultaneously, they develop critical understanding of globalisation, knowledge management and change management. They are also given the choice to either deepen their understanding of sustainability and ethics, or explore the transformative impact of accelerating AI on businesses, organisations and societies of the future.
