Course summary

Become a highly skilled, career-ready graduate with BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance. Our employability-focussed degree will equip you with the theoretical, technical and practical skills to confidently enter the workforce.

With a strong focus on sustainability and addressing global challenges such as climate finance, international tax avoidance and FinTech in emerging markets, you will explore the social, ethical and global context of Accounting and Finance, and gain hands-on experience with financial data platforms, exposure to live financial briefs and simulations, and the use of professional tools in our state-of-the-art Finance Lab.

Our degree will give you a head start in achieving Chartered Accountant status, and our Year in Industry, Year Abroad and Foundation Year course options give you the opportunity to tailor your study experience to your needs and career ambitions, ready for an exciting career in Accounting and Finance..

Modules

Your first year of study is made up of compulsory modules, ensuring a solid foundation in core disciplines. Compulsory modules are studied by all students on the programme, meaning you are automatically enrolled. Examples of compulsory modules include:

• Foundations of Finance
• Foundations of Financial Accounting
• Foundations of Management Accounting

Your second year will comprise of a mixture of compulsory and optional modules, which you can pick according to your chosen career. Your third year will comprise purely of optional modules choices. Examples of 2nd and 3rd year modules in recent years have included:

• Corporate Finance
• Financial Accounting
• Investments: Assets Equities and Bonds
• Forensic Accounting
• Investment Banking

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDM

Access to HE Diploma - D: 33 credits M: 9 credits

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 points

International students must achieve 4 at Higher Level English Language and/or Literature, or 5 at Standard Level English Language and/or Literature.

WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales

Swansea University accepts the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales as fully equivalent to x1 A-Level.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)

Swansea University accepts the Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate as fully equivalent to x1 A-Level.

Extended Project

We recognise the EPQ as an excellent indicator of success. If you are predicted a Grade B or above in the EPQ, you will receive an offer with a one grade reduction, to include your EPQ with a grade B.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H2, H2, H2, H2, H2, H3

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE Grade C or 4 in Mathematics and English or Welsh (first language) is required.

All applications are considered on an individual basis, with GCSE grades, AS Level subjects and grades, work experience, references and personal statement taken into account. Variable offers are made dependent on subjects studied.

English language requirements

For applicants whose first language is not English we require a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) and no less than 5.5 in each component.

The Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales is considered as equivalent to one full A-Level and students can take x2 A-levels alongside this. EPQ students predicted Grade B or above will receive a one-grade offer reduction.
