Course summary

Cognition and Learning – Skills & Knowledge

Module leader: Dr Jane Yeomans.

Start dates: 15 May and 15 September every year.

Time required to complete this course: You will have up to 12 months to complete the module via our online learning platform - Campus Online.

Progress your studies: This Level 7 module will provide you with 30 credits toward a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert), a Diploma (PGDip) or Master of Education (MEd) on our SEND and Inclusion programme.

Here are some key reasons why you should take this module:

  • Develop a critical awareness of models and frameworks for understanding cognition and learning.

  • Develop a thorough knowledge of cognition and learning as an area of special educational needs.

  • Develop a critical understanding of the processes of assessment and teaching with meeting the cognition and learning area of special educational needs.

  • Understand the interplay between cognitive functioning and development, the learning environment and the socio-cultural context for learning.

  • Be aware of equal opportunities and anti-oppressive practise issues to identify and assess cognition and learning difficulties.
