This MA provides a unique opportunity to develop collaborative theatre making skills informed by leading practitioners working in the field of contemporary performance. The course will appeal to recent graduates from a range of performance practices including performers, directors, writers, dancers, choreographers, composers, musicians and actors as well as to people already working in the performing arts industry who need to increase or consolidate their knowledge. This could include school teachers and tutors at FE delivering GCSE and A-level performing arts, as well as to people already working in the performing arts industry.
You will see that the course provides a unique opportunity to explore creatively how the performing arts is currently practised and how it may be developed as a discipline by, for example, exploring synergies of screen media, film and live performance through theory and practice.
The course begins with a week-long residency with a leading theatre company culminating with a scratch performance.
You will be guided in your studies by skilled academic practitioners and lecturer input increasingly moves towards independent study, encouraging you to adopt the role of performer / director / maker as well as academic.
The course will conclude with a project led by you, in which you develop either an artistic concept or use ideas explored during the course in a wider social context.
