Course summary
Our BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Education and Qualified Teacher Status merges computer science knowledge with hands-on experience in school settings. Throughout this three-year course, you will study core technical subjects, while gaining a profound understanding of the impact of technology on society.
Immerse yourself in software engineering, programming languages, computer systems, architecture, and data structures. Work with specialised computer science students for two-thirds of your programme.
Beyond technical expertise and to improve your teaching skills, you'll take part in regular school experiences from your first year.
Get a comprehensive teaching qualification in just three years. UEL is the only provider of this type of programme in London. By eliminating the need for a postgraduate certification you will be ready to teach computer science in schools upon graduation.
Modules
Year 1: Software Development, Computer Systems & Networks, Web Technologies, Maths for Computing, Computer Science Teaching and Learning, School Based Training 1: Reflections on Practice.
Year 2: Database Systems, Web and Mobile App Development, Advanced Programming, Data Communications and Networks, School Based Training 2: Reflections on Practice, Researching Computer Science Learning.
Year 3: Mental Wealth; Professional Life 3 (Project), Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Topics in Computer Science, Active Inquiry, School-based Training 3: Reflection on Practice.
Assessment method
Assessment tasks are mainly spread across the year to make the workload manageable. Assessment methods include group work, exams and individual work including essays, presentations, case studies, professional development and practical activities depending on the nature of the course. All grades count towards your module mark. More details will be included in the student handbook and module guides. You will always receive detailed feedback outlining your strengths and how you can improve.
We aim to provide feedback on assessments within 15 working days, although you will receive immediate feedback following many of our face-to-face assessments.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
