Course summary

The 1-year MA Dance and Musical Theatre Performance Degree is a rigorous programme of vocational training for aspiring professional performers. The programme provides you with an opportunity to solidify and deepen your technical training in dance and musical theatre techniques through high contact hours, whilst also providing opportunities to diversify and enhance your practice through critical engagement in dance studies, choreographic enquiry, and exposure to professional employment networks. The course centres on developing your individual practice, with a capstone performance portfolio module allowing you to demonstrate the breadth of your performance and research skills, as well as engage in an industry work-based placement.
Throughout the year the rigour and complexity of training increases so that you develop the skills, knowledge and expertise necessary for a long and successful performing career, as well as the security of gaining an MA Dance and Musical Theatre Performance to pave the way for life after a performing career.
The course is designed specifically for performers who want to excel in the Cruise, Cabaret and Musical Theatre industries and includes Ballet, Technical Jazz, Heels Technique, Showgirl Technique, Commercial, Latin, Lyrical, Tap, Singing (group & solo), Acting, Integrated Performance, Choreography and Health / Mental Health & Nutrition.

The University’s general entry requirements will apply to admission to this programme with the following additions / exceptions:

Applicants to the course will typically have an undergraduate dance and/or musical theatre degree with at least a 2:1 mark, as well as significant dance experience. Suitability for the intensive programme of study will be assessed through an audition process which will take place in person at the college.
This audition process comprises of a variety of dance classes, a presentation of practical work, a vocal assessment, a piece of self-reflective writing around their dance career to date and a short interview.

If you do not meet the entry requirements you may, if you have relevant professional experience, still be invited for interview, where you will be required to demonstrate the necessary knowledge and understanding for entry onto the course.
Previous study, professional and / or vocational experiences may be recognised as the equivalent learning experience and permit exemption from studying certain modules in accordance with our accreditation of prior learning (APL) process.
