Course summary

Our 75:25 programme enables you to specialise in the study of Politics while also studying a modern foreign language. The great majority of your studies will focus on political institutions and ideas, from the UK to the USA and from Plato to Nato. You will learn about how political theory shapes everyday political debate, how democracies differ from autocracies, how choices are made in political systems, and how nation-states relate to each other in an interdependent, and often unpredictable, world.

A Minor in Portuguese enables students to attain proficiency by graduation, through structured and immersive language training. Students develop advanced skills in writing, reading, speaking and listening in one of the world’s most important languages, spoken in Portugal, Brazil and across Africa, and sustained by dynamic heritage and diasporic communities in North America and Asia. Proficiency in Portuguese opens access to dynamic global regions and to diverse artistic traditions throughout the Portuguese-speaking world. An optional Year Abroad in Portugal or Brazil further strengthens fluency and intercultural competence, while enhancing students' career prospects worldwide.

Most Combined Degrees allow you to adapt the weighting of each by 25% after the first year, helping you to keep your options open. Please note, however, students studying either a Business or Economics pathway in combination with another subject cannot increase from 25% to 50% or from 50% to 75% and it is not possible to transfer from a 50% to 75% Law. To find out more about your programme choice, please go first to our Combined Degrees webpages: liverpool.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/combined-degrees.
