Course summary

Psychology is the scientific study of mind, brain and behaviour. Here at York, we teach psychology as a rigorous experimental biological science.

Our exciting and innovative four year MSci course allows you to engage fully with the theories, perspectives, and methods that are used to study the mind, the brain, and behaviour, while developing your practical, high-level skills in empirical investigation and scientific data analysis. It will equip you with advanced training in research methods, statistics and specialisation in one of three pathways at the forefront of contemporary behavioural science.

These pathways are:

  • Clinical Psychology

  • Developmental Disorders

  • Neuroscience and Neuroimaging

UCAS Tariff - Not accepted

A level - AAA

Essential Subjects: Science (or equivalent) is essential. A second science subject is desirable but is not essential. We include Biology, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Statistics as science subjects.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDD

We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Science (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential. We may also consider relevant units in your BTEC as A Level Science equivalent.

Access to HE Diploma - D: 39 credits M: 6 credits

Pass Access to HE Diploma with 39 credits at Distinction including at least 12 in Science-related units and 6 at Merit or higher.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 36 points

With 6 in Higher Level Science or Mathematics. A second science subject is desirable but is not essential.

WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales - A

We will consider this qualification alongside or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications, as equivalent to one A Level.

Extended Project - A

If you achieve A or higher at EPQ, you may be eligible for an alternative offer up to one A Level grade (or equivalent) below our typical offer.

OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - DDD

We consider a range of OCR qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications. A Level in Science (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential. We may also consider relevant units in your OCR Cambridge Technical as A Level Science equivalent.

T Level

We consider a range of T Level qualifications, in combination with an A Level in Science (or equivalent qualification). Please contact us to discuss your qualifications.
