Course summary

If you have potential, but you're missing the appropriate qualifications, then our foundation year course offers a route onto our Engineering degree programmes.

The course is aimed at:

  • A level students who have not recently studied Maths

  • Mature students looking to change their career

You'll spend your foundation year learning maths and physics content to A level standard. You'll also apply this learning to develop your practical skills in experimental labs.

After successfully completing the foundation year, you'll transfer into Year 1 of an Engineering degree of your choice.

We build employability into every aspect of our courses. Alongside developing an in-depth understanding of your subject, you'll gain a range of transferable skills that will allow you to take on a career in a number of sectors.

All our degree programmes are offered as three-year Bachelors (BEng) courses or four-year Integrated Masters (MEng) courses.

Every applicant is considered individually and we are looking for evidence that you are capable of dealing with the workload of the course. This might be by being in full-time employment or other experience, or by successfully completing three A-levels (usually at BBB grades) or equivalent qualifications. We welcome enquiries from individuals who wish to discuss their specific circumstances including any mitigating factors.

In addition to the strength of your entry qualifications, we may also consider prior performance in maths qualifications, such as GCSE or Core Maths, as part of our selection process. If your application meets our interview criteria, you will be invited to attend an academic interview to discuss your application with us.

Please get in touch with us for an informal discussion if you are interested in our foundation year programmes but you’re unsure whether you meet our criteria.

Contextual admissions

Universities and colleges consider more than grades when assessing applications and may make offers based on a range of criteria. Learn more about contextual offers.

Contextual offers take social and economic factors that may have prevented you from reaching your true academic potential into account.

We know that some students face significant barriers during their journey to university. Contextual offers promote fairness and diversity in our community of talented students.

With a contextual offer, UK students can receive a reduced offer of up to two grades below our typical entry requirements.
