Qualification requirements
Applicants must satisfy the Ulster University General Entrance Requirements as specified in the University General Regulations and at least one of the following:

A minimum of three passes at GCSE Grade C or 4 and above, which must include Mathematics and English Language (approved equivalents can be found at www.ulster.ac.uk/study/entrance-requirements), and either:
a). A minimum tariff of 64 UCAS points to include at least one specified subject at Grade D or above at GCE A Level from the following list: Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Technology (including Environmental Technology, Environmental Science, Digital Technology, Technology & Design, Design & Technology), Life and Health Sciences (single or double award), Applied Science, Geography, or ICT;
OR
b). A Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma or National Extended Diploma in Construction, Civil Engineering, Building Engineering, Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Applied Science with minimum grade of Merit, Pass, Pass;
OR
c). A minimum tariff of 64 UCAS points with a combination of A Level and/or BTEC Level 3 Awards. The subject requirement must be met either through the A Level or the BTEC award (see a and b above).
Please note that other Level 3 Qualifications including OCR Nationals and Cambridge Technical combinations do not satisfy the subject entry requirement for this course and will be accepted as grade only when presented with A levels in the required subject(s).

Irish Leaving Certificate: a minimum tariff of 64 UCAS points with four subjects at Higher Level, including one subject at H3 from Physics, Maths, Technology, Chemistry, Biology or Engineering. Must include English and Maths at min grade H6 or O4.

Scottish Highers: a minimum tariff of 64 UCAS points to include one B from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Geography or a Technology or Engineering subject. Scottish Advanced Highers: a minimum tariff of 64 UCAS points to include one subject from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Geography or a Technology or Engineering subject. Plus GCSE Maths and English at grade C or 4 and above.

Evidence of an ability to undertake the programme through the accreditation of prior experiential learning which must be submitted in accordance with the College Policy Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) Higher Education Process available on the college website. Plus a minimum of three passes at GCSE Grade C or 4 and above, which must include Mathematics and English Language (or approved equivalents: see 1 above).

Minimum 45% in approved Access to HE Diploma course in Science, Mathematics, Physics or Engineering.

- You must ensure that you meet the following non-academic entry requirements, for courses running during academic year September 2026 – August 2027: You must be 16 years old by 1 July 2026 (born before 2nd July 2010). You must provide proof of your right to study in the UK. For courses with work placement, you must also provide proof of your right to work in the UK. You must provide photographic evidence of your identity.
Access NI/ SOSCARE - Admission to certain courses will be subject to satisfactory Access NI/criminal records and SOSCARE checks.
Criminal Convictions Disclosure - The College has a student Criminal Convictions Disclosure Policy therefore you must disclose criminal convictions when applying or enrolling onto a course. The College reserves the right to increase the entry requirements for all Higher Education provision before offers are made, to reflect required academic standards as specified by the Awarding Body/validating organisation. This will be clearly communicated in the entry requirements on course details page.
English language requirements
There are minimum English Language requirements for full-time Higher Education programmes.
Applicants must hold a GCSE pass at Grade C/4 or above in English Language.
Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills Literacy may be regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE English Language. The College may accept an equivalent level of qualification. Some courses may require higher than the minimum Grade C/4.
You are advised to check the individual course entry requirements. You can find these within the Entry Requirements section under each individual course. Where a GCSE grade in English is specified as the only qualification accepted, other English competency qualifications may not apply.
If you have not achieved GCSE English Language Grade C/4 or an equivalent level, you will be asked to provide evidence of English Language competency. Other qualifications may be accepted as evidence of level of competency on a case-by-case basis. You will be referred to the appropriate curriculum area who will guide you on your next steps.
Where an ESOL qualification is used, the appropriate level must be achieved across all skills - Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening.
