Chemical Engineering with Environmental Engineering

Course summary

By combining chemical and environmental engineering, you’ll design processes and products that minimise environmental impacts on air, land and water – addressing key issues such as waste disposal, environmental compliance, pollutant management and water supply.

Our programme is characterised by its focus on industrial relevance. You’ll engage in practical laboratory work, design and problem-based projects, independent and peer-led learning, and research grounded in real industrial challenges. You’ll gain a deep understanding of engineering and design processes and build key design skills, paving the way for you to make an impact in a variety of industries, including food and drink, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and renewable energy.

In your first year, you’ll cover the fundamentals of chemical and environmental engineering and build a solid foundation in what it means to be a professional engineer.

As you progress through your course, you’ll develop a thorough understanding of chemical and environmental engineering theory, method and practice, as well as transferable skills such as project management, analytical thinking, leadership and teamwork.

By the time you graduate, you’ll have the skills, knowledge and passion to make a real difference, ready to lead the way toward a more sustainable future where engineering serves both people and the planet. You’ll also be on track to register as a professionally qualified engineer, following the relevant industrial training and experience.

A level - AAA

including Mathematics and including one of Chemistry or Physics. Excluding General Studies, Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills and Citizenship Studies.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - D*DD

RQF Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in an Engineering subject grades D*DD including Distinctions in Engineering Principles, Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems and Further Engineering Mathematics.

Access to HE Diploma - D: 36 credits M: 9 credits P: 0 credits

To include Distinctions in 15 Mathematics credits and 15 Distinctions in Engineering/Science credits. Applications are assessed on an individual basis.

Scottish Higher - AAABB

This qualification is only acceptable when combined with Advanced Higher grades AA including Mathematics and one of Chemistry or Physics.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - D*D

and A Level Mathematics grade A.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate (first teaching from September 2016) - D

and A Level grades AA including Mathematics and one from Physics or Chemistry.

Scottish Advanced Higher - AA

including Mathematics and one of Chemistry or Physics. This qualification is only acceptable when combined with Higher grades AAABB.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 34 points

or 666 in Higher Level Certificates including 6 in Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, 6 Higher Level Mathematics Applications and Interpretation or Standard Level 7 in Mathematics Analysis and Approaches plus Higher Level 6 in one of Physics or Chemistry.

WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales - A

This qualification is only acceptable when combined with A Level grades AA in Mathematics and one of Chemistry or Physics.

Extended Project - A

If you have already achieved your EPQ at grade A you will automatically be offered one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject. If you are still studying for your EPQ you will receive the standard course offer, and also an alternate offer with a condition of one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject if you achieve an A grade in your EPQ. If you qualify for a contextual offer, your EPQ will be taken into consideration and the appropriate adjustment will be made to your offer. Please note that if you qualify for an enhanced contextual offer, your EPQ will not be taken into consideration as we are unable to make any further adjustments to your offer.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal - D3, M1, M1

including Mathematics and one of Chemistry or Physics

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE English grade 4 (alpha grade C)

T Level

A level mathematics also required. For applicants with T Level qualifications without A level mathematics the Foundation Year (H100) is recommended.

European Baccalaureate - 85% overall including 85% or 8.5 in Mathematics 5 and 85% or 8.5 in either Chemistry or Physics.
